The story: Power outage!
Suddenly, the power is out throughout the city. A severe storm has swept across the countryside, causing a blackout. To restore power, aid teams are needed.
Gradually, the teams solve various tasks, bringing power back one neighborhood at a time. The first priority is to restore emergency power to the hospital.
Your individual outdoor event
You can play »Black Out«, the online outdoor team event, wherever it suits you. The team event is completely location-independent. Only requirement: Participants must go outside and move freely to collect clues, as the app works via GPS.
Do you want to fix not just a power outage but also rescue spelunkers from a cave or restart a company's computer system? No problem! We can easily adapt the story for you.
The procedure
To collect clues for the outdoor team event »Black Out«, colleagues will install an app on their phones beforehand.
The host will provide a brief introduction, after which colleagues go outside individually to gather clues by moving around: one clue every 200 meters will be played on the app. Each individual can collect a maximum of 18 clues — approximately a four-kilometer walk.
The team reconvenes online after collecting clues and together solves the tasks. The individual teams (4 to 7 participants) compete against each other.
Each set of four clues is required to solve the tasks of the outdoor team event. There are A-, B-, C-, and D-clue categories: Each colleague sees only one clue category on their phone. In other words, at least four attentive colleagues are needed to solve each task.
Each team decides how to divide the gameplay time. If one hour is available, the team has several options for their strategy:
- – e.g., 20 minutes running to collect many clues, followed by 40 minutes solving riddles and completing as many tasks as possible
- – or 30 minutes running fast, then 30 minutes solving riddles and tasks
- – or prefer a more relaxed pace: 30 minutes walking comfortably, collecting only about 10 clues, then 30 minutes solving tasks — this way, only part of the city is powered again, but the mood is much more relaxed!
