Choosing a studio for hire in Sydney starts with what you need to create. A product shoot needs room for lighting and a suitable backdrop. A filmed interview needs clean audio as well as a good-looking set. A podcast may need microphones, cameras, a producer and an agreed editing workflow.

This guide compares six studios listed on EventButler, from Marrickville and Alexandria to Caringbah, Bella Vista and Rockdale. Use it to match the space, technical support and hire arrangement to your production. Each studio profile provides a place to explore the venue and discuss your brief.

For photo and video dry hire with your own team: start with Good Loco.
For a ready-to-record video podcast or interview: compare The Media Joint, Yesterday Studios and GREY.
For a shoot combined with a small launch or workshop: consider Studio 311, OAK or GREY, subject to the agreed event use.
Compare the full booking: space, equipment, operator, setup time, editing and file delivery.

Choose the hire model before the room

Dry hire: you hire the space and the equipment specifically listed in the booking. Your team manages setup and the production unless extra services are agreed. Include testing, equipment setup and pack-down in the schedule.

Supported recording: the studio provides agreed technical assistance, such as camera operation, audio monitoring or live switching. Specify the responsibilities rather than assuming a particular service level from the phrase “studio hire”.

Full production: the brief may include concept development, set design, crew, filming and editing. Ask for a written scope with deliverables, revision rounds and delivery dates.

For podcasts and interviews, separate acoustic treatment from sound isolation. Treatment can help control reflections inside a room; it does not by itself establish how much outside noise the space excludes. Discuss neighbouring activity, ventilation noise and your recording needs with the operator.

Photo & content studio hire

Start with the backdrop, lighting and working space your shoot needs.

01Marrickville

Good Loco

Good Loco suits a team that wants to manage its own shoot. The Marrickville studio operates on a dry-hire basis, with a white cyclorama and a published list of included lighting and production equipment. The cyc measures 6 × 5 metres with a 4-metre height; those dimensions describe the backdrop area, rather than the whole venue.

Allow for equipment setup and pack-down within your session. If you need a photographer or videographer, the operator can connect you with creatives at a separate charge. Compare the complete production cost when choosing a session.

Best suited to: Product shoots, portraits and brand content with your own production team.
Before booking: The operator states that the studio is not fully soundproofed and access is by stairs. Discuss dialogue recording and equipment access before booking.

Video & podcast studio hire

For recorded conversations, prioritise the audio setup, production support and files you will receive.

02Alexandria

The Media Joint

The Media Joint offers Dark and Light TV studio options in Alexandria. Both are advertised with three fixed cameras, microphones, adjustable lighting and digital backdrops, giving teams a starting point for filmed conversations without building a set from scratch.

The provider describes live editing and separate recordings from each camera and microphone. That makes it worth shortlisting when you need a produced programme as well as material for later edits. Discuss the recording brief and the support included before choosing a studio.

Best suited to: Video podcasts, interviews and repeatable branded programmes.
Before booking: Confirm participant numbers, session preparation and the exact delivery format, turnaround and editing included in your booking.
03Sydney

Yesterday Studios

Yesterday Studios brings three adaptable audio and video production spaces together in Alexandria. Its published offering covers podcasts, interviews, branded series, live streaming and e-commerce content, supported by an in-house team.

Custom sets and a production process spanning planning, filming and post-production make this a useful option for a repeatable format. Studio One can connect its studio floor and green-room area through acoustic sliding doors; Studios Two and Three have dedicated control or viewing spaces. Match the room and crew to your production rather than selecting by photographs alone.

Best suited to: Branded series, recurring podcasts and productions with a defined visual identity.
Before booking: Request a scope covering set preparation, crew, recording, revisions and final delivery; agree what remains installed between repeat sessions.
04Caringbah

GREY. Creative Studios

GREY. in Caringbah combines a content studio, podcast facilities and an event space. The operator describes a 6 × 5-metre cyclorama for photo and video work, plus two recording spaces for produced audio and video podcasts.

This range suits a content brief with several outputs: for example, product photographs alongside an interview or a series of expert conversations. Establish whether the required spaces can be booked together and how the production team will support each part of the day. Its boutique-event offering is a separate consideration when planning a launch or workshop.

Best suited to: Brands combining still photography, video content and recorded conversations.
Before booking: Ask which recording space, crew and edit deliverables are included. Check event hire separately if you also plan to invite an audience.

Studios for shoots and small events

These options connect production with presentations, launches or intimate gatherings. Agree the permitted use and guest layout.

05Bella Vista

Studio 311

Studio 311 at Norwest Business Park in Bella Vista offers a white corner cyclorama, coloured-backdrop options and a choice between natural light and full darkening. Its official information lists photography, videography, content creation, workshops and product launches among its uses.

For a shoot combined with a presentation, map out where the production setup, guests and preparation area will sit. Photographic equipment is also available for hire, so check what is included in the room booking and what attracts a separate fee.

Best suited to: Photo or video shoots, workshops and product presentations in Sydney’s north-west.
Before booking: Request the current equipment list and a production-specific access plan. Confirm the guest limit and furniture layout for any event component.
06Sydney

OAK the studio

OAK the studio in Rockdale combines studio hire with photography and content-creation services. The operator positions the space for photoshoots, intimate events and pop-ups, giving brands an option for a content day with a small gathering attached.

Start with the images you need and the number of people attending. Then agree the studio setup, styling, production assistance and handover. For a campaign that requires both photographs and short video clips, ask for a coordinated scope so the outputs and responsibilities are clear.

Best suited to: Brand photography, content days, pop-ups and smaller gatherings.
Before booking: Confirm the lighting package, preparation time and permitted event format. Ask about audio conditions before proposing a podcast recording.

Plan a useful corporate content day

A studio day can support the wider event programme: record speaker interviews before a conference, produce a customer conversation after a launch, or create staff portraits and campaign clips in one session. Decide the final outputs before booking the room.

For example, a two-speaker interview brief might specify the main video, clean audio, captions and a set of short social clips. Schedule a technical check, speaker preparation, recording slots and pickup time. If you also need portraits, confirm a separate setup or allow time to change the lighting.

A production studio’s crew limit and a venue’s event guest capacity are different questions. If clients or attendees will join the session, confirm the permitted audience, seating, amenities and circulation space. For a larger gathering, explore Sydney corporate event venues alongside the studio shortlist.

How to compare studio hire costs

Request a total for the same production brief, rather than comparing headline hourly rates. A room-only price and a staffed recording package cover different work. Check minimum sessions, weekday or weekend rates, GST, overtime and any background repainting or extra cleaning charges.

Also cost the time after the shoot. A lower room rate can still require external editing, captioning and file preparation. A supported package may reduce some of that work, but only the agreed scope tells you what you receive. Reconfirm current rates and inclusions for your dates.

This is a use-case shortlist rather than a ranking. Confirm the current room, availability and production scope directly with the operator.
