Reviews
Viand in Woolloomooloo is where Sydney's Thai fine dining scene reaches its peak. Guests consistently rave about Chef Annita Potter's extraordinary eight-course degustation menus — every paste and broth made from scratch, every flavour balanced with precision. The atmosphere feels more like a dinner party at a friend's beautiful home than a formal restaurant, with an open kitchen, curated wine pairings, and an art gallery upstairs to explore between courses. Service is warm, unhurried, and genuinely personal. Whether it's a birthday, a work lunch, or a special occasion, regulars keep coming back.
Great food. Excellent wine knowledge. Bit quiet for a Saturday night so the atmosphere was lacking. Impressed by the wine room upstairs! Also have a small art gallery for an added touch. Would recommend to lovers of Asian flavours and cuisine.
The set menu was perfect for us. Lovely light and spicy flavours and not too heavy, perfect for a late dinner. The atmosphere is lovely, very friendly staff and great food
Dinner here is an expansive and unhurried affair, where you have time to talk and enjoy the quite exceptional and carefully crafted food and Anita’s excellent choice of wines. It’s almost like eating around your own dining table for a Sunday lunch, it has that sort of atmosphere. Pricey but exceptional.
Carrying on the traditions of refined Thai cuisine set 20+ years ago by David Thompson, Viand stands alone these days as perhaps Sydney's best Thai dining experience. And it won't bankrupt you either. As a bonus, the service is charming, the background music is great (at least if you remember the 70s and 80s!) and it has an excellent wine list.
