About us

Historic pub brewery with bar and restaurant

The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel is Sydney's oldest continually licensed hotel, established in 1841 in The Rocks historic precinct. The venue operates as a multi-level establishment comprising a ground floor bar, first floor restaurant (Upstairs at The Lord), and accommodation across the top two levels. The property features original convict-quarried sandstone architecture from its Georgian colonial origins.

The venue houses Australia's oldest pub brewery, operating on-site since 1986. The brewery produces six mainstay ales and rotating seasonal ales using 100% natural ingredients—malt, hops, yeast, and water only, with no added sugars, preservatives, or additives. The Back Bar, situated directly adjacent to the brewery, accommodates 25–50 people for cocktail-style functions. The restaurant upstairs features an award-winning wine list and serves British and modern Australian cuisine, including a weekly British Sunday Roast available throughout the venue.

Accommodation comprises Officer Rooms (small, suitable for two occupants) and Admiral Rooms (larger, suitable for two or three occupants). All rooms include tea and coffee facilities, telephone, refrigerator, television, iron, hairdryer upon request, and air conditioning. Wireless broadband is available throughout the establishment. The property has no lifts and rooms are not wheelchair accessible. On-site catering is provided, and functions are available seven days per week in both bar and restaurant spaces.

If your exploring around the rocks, Circular Quay, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour a very good place for a rest and a cool beer and food. Good choice of beers and brews it's own. One of the trilogy of the oldest pubs in Sydney (The Lord Nelson, The Hero of Waterloo and Fortune of War). All 3 close to each other, easily walkable. This is on King Street. Outdoor or Indoor seating available. Historical venue, certainly worth a look inside to see the decor and character of the place.

Popped into the Lord Nelson with my family on roast night. Was totally impressed with the character of the pub and the quality of the food was fantastic. Great experience.

Great pub lunch, in fact it's probably the best in Sydney. I'm just glad I don't live next door, or is be there all the time.
