Heritage garden ceremonies, receptions and corporate celebrations
Across our 14 acres of gardens, you can explore a variety of ceremony and event locations, including lawns, a fernery and lakeside surroundings. We can discuss intimate occasions as well as larger garden events; the final guest limit depends on the location and setup. An estate-wide maximum is not specified in our available venue-hire information, so please confirm your proposed numbers with the functions team.
Our Ballroom leads out to the pool area and provides a setting for a reception or corporate occasion. Garden ceremonies and Ballroom functions have different booking and catering arrangements. For Ballroom events before the end of 2026, arrangements are handled through Showtime Event Group; from 1 January 2027, the nominated events and catering partner is Peter Rowland Group. Please confirm the applicable partner for your event date.
Accessibility varies across this heritage property. The mansion has accessible entry to the ground floor, while its upper floor is not accessible. Gravel garden paths can be challenging for wheelchair users, and staff can help identify more suitable routes. Please discuss your selected event area, accessible facilities and arrival requirements in advance.
General visitors use local off-site parking. Guests with mobility needs can request suitable access arrangements with advance notice. We are also close to Rippon Lea railway station, with tram and bus connections nearby. This is a surprising gem in the heart of Elsternwick a beautiful historical mansion that deserves a visit. If you are living in Melbourne or tourist - make sure to bring a picnic! This is a beautiful place to visit especially if you are a national trust member where you can enter and take a tour for free otherwise you’ll pay a $25 charge for the tour so buying a membership when you arrive is highly recommended!
My first time visiting Ripponlea Estate today, I loved it, the grounds are beautiful, the house is beautiful and the volunteers and staff were also beautiful. Everyone we came into contact with was very friendly and knowledgeable. We are so lucky to have a place like this in Melbourne. From an accessible point of view there could be some improvements made however everyone is super helpful. For a property of that age it is bound to not be 10/10 in the accessible space. It would be fantastic if the council also put in some accessible parking on the street for people visiting. I will definitely be back again to explore the rest of the garden. The pool also looked very inviting I’d love to take a dip in it one day!! Such an amazing place!
This is, without a doubt, the most beautiful garden I've ever visited. I came here mid-Oct and despite just missing the purple wisteria, was gratefully able to see the white wisteria. Perfect for a picnic, could also spend an entire day there if you include a mansion tour (which I highly recommend!)
Beautiful mansion and gardens in the heart of inner suburbia. The staff are delightful and the tour of the mansion is a must do. I was impressed with our guide Lorraine’s knowledge and story telling. What a wonderful volunteer to have representing such a fascinating place. The ladies at reception are delightful and the whole experience left me smiling. Now I have a National Trust membership, I will definitely return on a regular basis. There is so much more to see.
