I visited Ms Frankie Carlton on a Saturday evening in August 2026 for dinner with a group of friends after spending most of the afternoon catching up over drinks. I'd walked there, and it's in a really convenient part of Carlton just off Lygon Street, so it's pretty easy to get to whether you're walking, driving or using public transport. The restaurant itself is quite hard to miss once you're in the area, with a large frontage and a really inviting entrance. If you're driving, parking is actually one of the easier parts of visiting compared with some inner city restaurants. Ms Frankie says there is plenty of parking including directly out the front, although obviously availability will depend on how busy the area is. There are also paid car parks around if street parking is full. Public transport is another good option, with buses stopping very close by and trams on Lygon Street. So I definitely wouldn't feel the need to drive here. The entrance was one of my favourite parts because the whole place is just so cute. There is exposed brick, little decorative touches everywhere and a really warm, aesthetic that somehow manages to be pretty without feeling over the top. The restaurant describes itself as combining traditional Southern Italian food with a contemporary setting, and I think that is a pretty accurate description of the vibe. There is also a pasta making area where you can see the fresh pasta being prepared, which I loved. We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday and I was honestly surprised we managed to get a table because the restaurant already looked packed. We had a larger group and the staff were so helpful about getting everyone organised, joining tables together and making room as more people arrived. The restaurant can accommodate quite large groups, so it worked really well for us despite how busy it was. Most of the table went for the feed me style menu, which included a whole selection of food including antipasti, arancini, pasta, salad and fries. The current group menu is $65 per person, with dessert available as an additional option, although the menu can change. I mainly stuck to drinks, but I did try some of the pasta and it was genuinely delicious. I even ended up taking some leftovers home because some of my interstate friends couldn't take theirs with them. I accidentally bit into a chilli at one point, but honestly, that's on me for not realising it was there! The drinks were also lovely and the bar area looked gorgeous. I really liked that Ms Frankie manages to feel like a proper Italian restaurant while also having the atmosphere of a cocktail bar. Even the bathrooms were beautifully decorated and had so much personality. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here. The food I tried was delicious, the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was fantastic. I'd definitely come back when I'm less focused on putting my liver through its paces and actually give more of the food menu a proper go.

We come every year for our birthdays. Every time is special and last night was no different. The team are absolutely lovely and the lovely Tiramisu birthday treat last night with a candle was beautiful.
