Heritage venues, wedding receptions and conferences at Sydney University
For a large reception, the Refectory provides 298 m² and hosts up to 500 guests for cocktails, 320 theatre-style or 220 for a banquet. The Cullen Room offers 171 m², while the Sutherland Room provides 168 m²; each accommodates up to 150 for cocktails, 140 theatre-style or 90 for a banquet. The 55 m² Chancellors Room is suited to an 18-person board meeting or private dinner, with a cocktail capacity of 25.
You can also consider the Drawing Room, with room for 70 banquet guests or 120 for cocktails, or our outdoor options. Cottage Lawns is advertised for up to 150 guests, Colonnade & Terrace hosts 80 at a long table or 100 for cocktails, and Courtyard Restaurant & Bar accommodates 250 for a banquet or 500 for cocktails. We also offer gallery hire and Great Hall wedding catering; discuss the precise venue arrangements with us.
Our catering includes seated meals, canapés, buffets, grazing tables and food stations. We work with you on dietary requirements and the event schedule. Wi-Fi and presentation equipment are available in the specified meeting spaces, with room-specific facilities confirmed before booking. Each venue has its own layout and access arrangements, so please tell us what your guests and programme need.

Lucas and I had our wedding at HostCo on 26 September, and we honestly couldn’t be happier that we chose to celebrate such a special day there. We started working with Helen the year before our wedding, and from the very beginning she made the whole process feel so easy and manageable. She was incredibly kind, supportive and always willing to help, and her recommendations throughout the planning process were so valuable. Having someone we trusted made such a difference, especially as the day got closer. We were also lucky enough to attend a wedding tasting beforehand, which was such a lovely experience. The chef was fantastic and was so accommodating with the few small adjustments we requested. On the night, so many of our guests commented on how delicious the food was, as well as how wonderful the service and atmosphere were. The Cottage Lawns were absolutely beautiful for our ceremony, and the Refectory was even more incredible for our reception. The heritage architecture, the beautiful painting on the wall and the character of the space made the whole evening feel so unique. Lucas is an architect who loves heritage, and I’m a teacher who has always had a strong interest in education, so the venue felt particularly meaningful and fitting for both of us. Most importantly, the whole day just felt like us. We are so grateful to Helen and the entire HostCo team for helping make our wedding so special and memorable. We have had so many people tell us how much they loved the venue, food, service and overall atmosphere. We genuinely couldn’t recommend HostCo more. HostCo provided us with catering and venue for our Scholarships and Prize night. Everything went very smoothly. The staff were amazing and attentive; the guests loved the canapes, and the venue was perfect. We will definitely book again.
We had the most special day celebrating in the Refectory. We worked with Helen throughout and she really made it all very smooth and stress free. She talked us through every part of the day and all the small details. The food and the service on the day was amazing with lots of compliments from our guests. Helen and the team had everything set up beautifully and took care of everything throughout the day without us having to think about any of it! They had wet weather options ready to go last minute without any pressure or stress on anything. The whole day went so well and we can't thank Helen and the team enough!
We had our wedding ceremony and reception here and it was fantastic, it exceeded our expectations. The venue itself is really beautiful and grand, and the food and wait staff at the reception were really really good. We have had numerous comments from guests on the quality of the food. I would recommend this as an events venue without hesitation.
