Criterion Hotel is a heritage hotel located at 260 Pitt Street in the heart of Sydney's CBD, steps from Town Hall Station and the QVB. The venue combines accommodation, a bistro and bar, and a dedicated event space. The Basement Bar is a separate, fully enclosed function area available for exclusive hire, accommodating up to 100 guests standing or 60–70 for seated arrangements. The space features low lighting, vintage booth seating, cocktail tables and dinner tables, with a full audio-visual system including wireless microphones and music compatibility. The bistro operates daily from 12pm to 9pm, serving pub classics with modern interpretations including Wagyu rump steak, schnitzels and parmigiana. The bar offers cocktails, wine and beer, with regular live music programming including acoustic sessions on Fridays and jazz sessions on Thursdays in the Basement. The hotel provides refurbished rooms with air conditioning, ensuite bathrooms and free Wi-Fi. Catering is included with function bookings, and the venue is equipped with sound system, microphones and display screens.

My college year group meets here for a catchup on its lower floor for dinner every year. Convenient and quiet downstairs.

I recently stayed here for 3 nights with friends and had 2 rooms between us. I found that they didn't make up my room, even when I left the sign on my door. My friends room had the air con leak water onto their pillow. They got the same room 10 days or so later (after returning from our cruise) and that air con had been switched off. With my room the second time around, they forgot to give me the remote (even though they were still making up my room around 3:45pm) and my TV automatically switched itself on. The good thing about this place is that it's cheap and conveniently located. But don't expect much at all in terms of comfort and service.

My sister and I have had a wonderful time staying at The Criterion! Every single staff member has been friendly, kind and courteous! Anything we asked for was never a problem! The rooms were great, views were great, and the food was very good! Cannot praise them enough! I travel a lot and if we come back to sydney we would definitely stay at The Criterion! 10/10 💜
