About us

Garden ceremonies and heritage celebrations in South Yarra

Celebrate your wedding at Como House and Garden, where a historic mansion and established gardens create a distinctive setting in South Yarra. We offer garden settings for ceremonies and photographs, followed by reception options in the historic Ballroom. Our National Trust weddings and functions team can help you discuss the setting, guest list and arrangements for your occasion.

Built in 1847, Como combines Australian Regency and Italianate architecture. Its interiors preserve the story of the Armytage family, while the gardens retain elements of their nineteenth-century design. These surroundings offer a heritage backdrop for your celebration, with the atmosphere of a town mansion rather than a purpose-built function centre.

Alongside weddings, Como is included among the National Trust properties available for public events and festivals. The estate also hosts cultural programs, exhibitions and guided experiences. Tell us your proposed event format so we can confirm which areas can be used and what conditions apply to the heritage property.

Curtis Stone Events is identified as the catering partner for Como House. Speak with our functions team about food, service and the requirements for your chosen event. Reception numbers, room layouts and outdoor-area capacities need to be confirmed for your specific booking; we do not present a general visitor limit as an event capacity.

Accessibility varies across the property. The grounds, café and accessible toilet can be used by visitors with access needs, while the historic house has limitations, including stairs. Discuss access and any portable-ramp arrangements before your visit or event. Private event access is arranged separately from ordinary house tours and public garden visits.

This is a heritage property managed by the national trust. You can only visit by a guided tour which lasts 1 hour. The tour guide was well informed and gave a good insight into the history of the property.

We were not quite sure what to expect when we opted for the house tour as the property could do with a bit of TLC externally. Our tour was led by Graham who made the house come alive, knowledgeable, engaging with a wry sense of humour. It was one of the best ever tours we have had both here in Australia & NT - England. The local branch has a real gem with Graham! Thank you! The cafe is great as well, appropriately priced with welcoming and competent staff. The whole package😃

I had an amazing visit to Como House! From the outside, the house didn’t look particularly impressive to me, but our guide Rhonda completely changed that. Her incredible knowledge and storytelling brought the house to life. You could really feel the history and imagine the people who lived there. Thank you, Rhonda, for such a wonderful experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
